ÿþThe social aspect often appears more important than the result. It seems that the slow, gentle nature of cricket is ideally suited to such an approach. To the outside world, however, the English love of cricket is likely to remain confusing. In 2005 England took on Australia in one of sport's oldest and finest competitions - the battle for the cricketing Ashes. Australia were the leading team in Test Match cricket and had been for more than a decade. England, by contrast, were only just in the process of bouncing back after years in the doldrums. Few expected what was about to happen next: England competed against the Australians, producing one of the greatest Test series in living memory.

It's been noticeable that the glow that followed the successes of two years ago has faded - kids aren't out on the parks playing cricket in the same numbers. English cricket stands at a crossroads. Many are asking whether it will re-establish itself, or simply fade from the limelight. Admittedly, one of the reasons is its smaller trophy room in comparison to Brazil's (2 titles in 4 finals for Argentina, 5 titles in 7 finals for Brazil) but still. . . In order to do it justice, I decided to accustom you to football in Argentina. Argentina soccer was organized in amateur or semi-professional local championships at the dawn of the 20th century and despite the fact that Argentina's national soccer team played its first match in 1901, don't think it was the same type of national team you would have today.

Most of the players, spotted in the semi-professional championships formed up that 1930 World Cup finalist team, after which most of them returned to mediocrity. In 1931, the first professional country-wide championship was instituted, although not all teams were affiliated to the national association. For example, only teams from Buenos Aires, Avellaneda and La Plata formed the championship structure in the first years, with teams from Santa Fe or Rosario joining later on. This early championship called the Metropolitano did not allow other provincial teams to join and due to increasing demand, the Argentina soccer association finally created a fully nation-wide competition in 1967, called the Nacional.

I have to admit, this system they adopted for football in Argentina was a bit weird at first and needed some getting used to. But I can also see the advantages of such a system. There are 5 teams that have dominated Argentina soccer ever since the Metropolitano championship was created: River Plate, Independiente, Boca Juniors, San Lorenzo and Racing Club are fighting for the title of Champions each year, for the past 50 years or so. Unfortunately, it's a case of "rich get richer" and smaller teams have less and less of a chance to be crowned as Argentina soccer champions, with these 5 (especially the first 3) dominating and monopolizing the competitions. It's these 5 clubs that launched many of the greatest Argentina soccer players on the world stage, although most of them transferred to powerful European clubs after only a few years at their home clubs.

First, and perhaps most importantly, you have to get yourself into shape! I'm not just talking about the walk to get the paper each day or playing a game of basketball on the weekends. To really enjoy hunting for mule deer, you will need to be in really good shape. Now, I understand, that dependent on how old you are, that this may not be an option, so if that is the situation, shoot for the best condition you have been in the last five years. The important thing is to do everything you can. Personally, my workout is going for a jog three or four times on a weekly basis. I start walking and work up to jogging about three months before the trip, and when the trip arrives, I'd like to be able to jog for a straight hour.

If you are not familiar with Glendale, Arizona and the location of the stadium, print or write out your driving directions. It is going to be a very busy day with an abundance of people running around. The last thing you need is to get lost in the shuffle! It would be best if you arrived plenty early for the best parking along with your piece of mind. There will be plenty of activities before the game to keep you entertained. Write down which parking lot that you parked in. You will be glad you did. Bring some extra cash just in case you need it. Cash machines will be available, but they will likely charge you a fee for their service. Wear a pair of pants, versus shorts. This is one very subtle technique that I found by accident.
